The accessible website we designed for Kirklees Citizens Advice & Law Centre (KCALC).

Our Client

Kirklees Citizens Advice & Law Centre (KCALC) offers assistance to members of the public via contact centres in Dewsbury and Huddersfield. Everyone calling in has the opportunity to access information to help them resolve their issue. Staff and volunteers are on hand to help guide people through their options. The organisation also offers a service in a number of outreach locations across Kirklees.

Project Requirements

KCALC initially had an outdated website that was hard to navigate and didn't reflect the full nature of the services on offer. To remedy this, the organisation had secured funding for a complete website redesign and were looking for a company that could transform their digital offering. The main scope of the project was to deliver a website that was professional looking, accessible to those with a disability and also to those who might not have English as their first language. The organisation also required the website to be low maintenance, search engine friendly and accessible across multiple devices such as tablets, smartphones, PCs and other devices. After a supplier vetting and interview process during Q1 2017, Green Route Media were selected to deliver this project on behalf of KCALC.

The Solution

By the middle of June 2017, Green Route Media had delivered the new KCALC website. The design was clean and easy to navigate across multiple devices with a colour scheme that reflected the organisations affiliation with Citizens Advice and the Law Centres Network. Full information on the organisations services was now available, along with accessibility controls to help those with a disability change the way the website appears. This included giving users the ability to change the colour scheme and font size. The website also integrated the Google Translate service so that those who might not have English as their first language were still able to access information. The website was based on the WordPress content management system and full training was provided so that members of staff could keep content up to date and relevant.
